THERAPY

Shum’s acupuncture therapy effectiveness is that it modifies the flow of energy (known as qi or chi) throughout the body.  Using this stimulation of precisely defined skin specific (acupoints) along the body is beneficial for pain syndromes that are due to an injury or associated with chronic degenerative diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. This same stimulation is also helpful in treating neurological problems like migraines, Parkinson's disease, reducing fatigue, addictions, and for promoting an overall well-being.

HEALING:

  • May be due to interaction of the afferent impulses from pain regions with those from the point of acupuncture.
  • May be caused by the release of endorphins.
  • Endogenous opiate peptides may participate in acupuncture analgesia from the presynaptic level to the receptor sites.
  • Needling of the acupuncture point could activate the afferent fibers of peripheral nerves through the ventro-lateral funiculi (conducting pain and temperature sensation) upward to the brain and activate the antinociceptive system.
  • Many brain nuclei may process acupuncture analgesia (e.g. the nucleus raphe magnus, periaqueductal grey, locus coeruleus, arcuate nucleus, preoptic area, nucleus submedius, habenular nucleus, accumbens nucleus, caudate nucleus, septal area, amygdale and others).
